Become a Pioneer!

Lewis & Clark looks  for and cherishes quality individuals who strive for excellence both in the classroom and on the athletics field.  The Pioneers compete mainly in the Northwest Conference against eight other NCAA Division III institutions in the Northwest.

Our student-athletes practice and compete in many excellent sports facilities, including:

This is the single most important step in your efforts to select the right college environment for you.  Find the names, bios and contact information for all Pioneer Coaches here.  Contact the coach to find out more about each of our programs, how your performances and dreams fit with the team, and schedule a visit to campus.

Step 2:  Tell us about you

Give the coaches more information about you by filling out our prospective student-athlete questionnaire which will go directly to your sport coach.

Step 3:  Review the Recruiting Rules for Division III

NCAA Guide for Student Athletes

  • NCAA Clearinghouse – Unlike Division I and II, Division III Athletics does NOT require you to go through the NCAA clearinghouse in order to be eligible to play in college.
  • Recruiting Materials - You may receive printed materials any time after you start you first-year in high school.
  • Telephone Calls/Email/Text – There is no limit on the number of calls/emails/texts and you can begin receiving this type of contact after the start of your first-year in high school.  You can also make calls to the coach at your own expense.
  • Off-Campus Contact – A college coach may begin to have contact with you and your parents/legal guardians off-campus (practice, competition site, college fair) ONLY after you junior year in high school.
  • Unofficial Visits – Unofficial visits are defined a visit by you to a college paid for by you or your parents.  The only expense that you may receive from the college is three complimentary admissions to a home athletics contest.  In addition, you can receive anything from the admissions office that is available to prospective students.  You may take as many unofficial visits as you like and those visits can occur any time regardless of your year in high school.
  • Official Visits – Official Visits are defined as any visit to a college campus by you paid for by the college.  The college may pay for the following expenses:
    • Your transportation to and from the college;
    • Room and meals while you are visiting the college; and
    • Reasonable entertainment expenses, including three complimentary admissions to a home athletics contest.

Interested in Transferring to Lewis & Clark?

Transfers from non-Division III institutions (NCAA Division I or II, Community Colleges, or NAIA):

If you are currently competing at a non-Division III institution, your current institution must provide a “Permission to Contact” letter releasing you to speak with Pioneer Coaches.  This letter must be provided by your current Athletics Director and emailed to jsimon@lclark.edu or faxed to (503) 768 7058 (Attention: Jenny Simon).  If this letter is not received or if your current institution does not grant permission, Lewis & Clark coaches are unable to speak with you.  You may begin the application and transfer process on your own and you may contact a coach.  However, they will be unable to “recruit” you without proper release forms.

Transfers from NCAA Division III institutions:

Transfers from other NCAA Division III institutions may grant their own permission to contact and be contacted by Pioneer Coaches.  In order to do this, prospective transfers need to fill out a “Self Release”  and fax the completed form to (503) 768 7058 (Attention: Jenny Simon).

Step 4:  Financing your education

Visit the college’s informative website about Financial Aid
