Lucinda Boyce

Major: Philosophy
Sport: Rowing
Years: 2002-06
Year: Second Mate, Lindblad Expeditions

ADVICE TO CURRENT STUDENT-ATHLETES
"Play a sport. Even if you're terrible. Get on a team, there is nothing like it in life and you're missing out if you're not a part of something like it. And, pick a major you think you know nothing about, take a few classes, get to know the teachers, and see what hooks."

HOW DID YOUR TIME AT L&C PREPARE YOU FOR LIFE AFTER COLLEGE?
"When I began at LC I was determined to become a music teacher. Throughout my four years I discovered there was a very large difference between what I enjoyed and what I desired as a career pursuant. My opportunities in the London overseas program encouraged an already developing love of travel. My switch to philosophy as a major was the best thing I could have done. It directed my mind in ways I never would have lead it and gave me the opportunity to focus on rowing (as practicing in a music room might not have)."

WHAT IS YOUR LIFE LIKE NOW?

"I work a rotation: Eight weeks on and four weeks off. The ships I work on are small expedition cruise vessels (Lindblad Expeditions/National Geographic) that transit Alaska in the summer, Columbia/Snake Rivers in the Fall, a month of shipyard out of San Francisco, and Baja/Costa Rica/Panama in the winter."
