On September 21, 2008 the Pioneer swim teams spent their Sunday morning working as volunteers at the annual Susan G. Komen  Race for the Cure in downtown Portland.  This is the second year that Coach Chris Fantz and the swim teams have served as course marshals stationed a barricades along the race route.  Community service is a value that Coach Fantz believes in strongly and has brought to the Pioneer swim program over the last two seasons.
