TUCSON, Ariz. - The Lewis & Clark baseball team battled against Wesleyan (Conn.) on Sunday afternoon in the teams final game of its Arizona tour, pulling out a high scoring 12-10 victory.
The Pioneers trailed 6-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth, when the team opened the game up. Lewis & Clark went on to score six runs in the inning after just four hits and two Wesleyan errors.
The inning saw Bradley Lezak come in to score after providing the teams first hit of the inning. Lezak made his way home on a throwing error by the Wesleyan second baseman. Geoff Wertz came in to score moments later on the second error of the inning. With two outs, Eric Hyun picked up two RBI with a single that brought in Matthew Cathcart and Michael Kinkenon. Hayden Higger knocked in the final two runs of the fifth with a double to left center.
Lewis & Clark piled on three more runs in the following inning with Cathcart, Andrew Traver and Corey Davis all earning RBI's. A sacrifice fly by Cathcart brought in Wertz for the first run of the sixth. Traver doubled scoring the next run, before coming in to score later on a Davis single.
Wesleyan tied the game at 10-10 in the top of the seventh with a little help from the Pioneers.
Wesleyan returned the favor in the bottom half of the inning, with the Pioneers scoring two runs on two hits and an error. Christian Macdonald came in to score the game winning run on a Kinkenon single, after leading off the inning with a walk. Wertz came in for the final Pio run on a Hyun single.
