Baseball Lands Two Players on Northwest Conference All-Conference Second-Team; Two Make Honorable Mention
FOREST GROVE, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark baseball team had two players in Eric Hyun and Michael Kinkenon named to the Northwest Conference All-Conference Second-Team as announced by the league office on Monday. Senior Geoff Wertz and freshman Matthew Cathcart were also recognized, earning spots on the honorable mention list.
Hyun started all 40 games for the Pioneers as the teams center fielder, finishing the season with a spotless 1.000 fielding percentage. The sophomore concluded the year with the top batting average on the team (.340), making contact with the ball a team-leading 52 times. Hyun ranks second on the team in RBI's with 21, while leading the team with 10 stolen bases on 12 attempts.
Kinkenon spent most of his time as the teams designated hitter, playing and starting all 40 games. The sophomore led the team in RBI's with 25, while ranking second on the team in doubles with 10. Kinkenon ended the season with a .294 batting average.
The Pioneers top utility player, Wertz spent the season as the Pioneers second baseman. Wertz ended the year with a .305 batting average and led the team with 12 doubles.
Cathcart, the Pioneers left fielder, ended the year ranked second on the team in batting average (.315) and fielding percentage (.971). The freshman also ended the season ranked fourth in hits and runs scored.
