PALATINE HILL -- Entering last season, Lewis & Clark baseball head coach Tom Flynn added 24 new student-athletes to his team and the Pioneers had their best start in nearly a decade, winning 11 of their first 26 games. On Friday, Flynn announced his newest team members, which will help fill some important roles for the Pios in 2017.

Lewis & Clark is expecting its top four hitters back next season after Connor Sick, Ben Beck, Akira Abderrahman and Sean Shepherd combined for 34 extra-base hits in 2016. Three of the Pios five pitchers with more than 20 innings thrown last season should be back as well, led by Nathan Klein who pitched a team-high 58 while also leading in strikeouts with 34.

"After bringing in a high number of student-athletes last year, we were focused on adding some new players who could help us in specific spots this year," said Flynn, who enters his seventh season as head coach. "We are confident our three newcomers will help the quality of our team."
