PORTLAND, Ore. -- Matt Donovan hit his 17th double of the season to become Lewis & Clark's all-time leader, but the Willamette Bearcats won the game, 16-0, in the series opener at Huston Sports Complex.
Donovan had one hit in four at-bats getting the double in the sixth inning. Perry Van Eckhardt had three hits for Willamette.
Nick Kennison (1-8) allowed three earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts over four innings before Stephen Baker (2.1 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 1 K) and Brian Tatman (2.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 3 K) finished out the game.
The Bearcats hit four home runs including two from Connor Bailey. Matt Steindorf allowed four hits without a run over six innings. He struck out four.
Lewis & Clark scored six runs combined in the fourth and fifth innings to rally back from a six-run deficit, but the Willamette Bearcats were able to close out a 12-7 win.
Robert Reaser rallied back after the Pios fell behind 7-1 through two innings. Reaser had seven runs scored against him, but two were earned as the Pioneers committed five errors in the game. Reaser struck out three and walked six. Zach Merzlak (0-2) took the loss after replacing Reaser in the eighth with the game tied at 7-7. The senior threw an inning and allowed two earned runs on three hits. Austin Conniff pitched the ninth and allowed two runs on three hits.
