About Pioneer Baseball
A Message from Coach Baughman
Baseball at Lewis & Clark College is alive and well! As an
LC alumnus, I have a personal stake in the success of this program
and after two years as head coach I can tell you that the Pioneers
are well on their way to separating themselves from the pack as one
of the top baseball programs in the Northwest. If you are looking
for the instruction that will make you the very best baseball
player your natural abilities will allow, the Lewis and Clark
coaching staff can provide you with the knowledge and experience
that is hard to find at any level of college baseball.
Like many quality players entering their senior season of high
school or sophomore season of JC, I found myself without a
scholarship. Armed with many league and county honors, an
appearance in the California State all star game, and a late round
draft selection by the Chicago Cubs, I chose to attend Lewis &
Clark College rather than sit for a year or two trying to earn a
scholarship. Following my junior year, the Angels selected me in
the fifth round of the 1995 amateur draft. My 8-year playing career
included parts of 4 years in AAA and 2 years at the Major League
Level. Following my playing career, I worked as the hitting coach
for the Angels’ A team in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
I bring a professional philosophy to LC, where teaching the right
way to play the game, physically and mentally, has proven
successful at the highest level of baseball. While most college
baseball players will never have the opportunity to play at the
next level, I teach the game with just that goal in mind. For 11
years I prepared myself or taught others to prepare themselves to
compete against the best ball-players in the world, Major leaguers.
Regardless of your potential to play after college, I teach the
game with that goal in mind. My strong relationships with
professional scouts throughout the Northwest will ensure that YOU
WILL BE SEEN. Even if your aspirations do not include baseball
after college, you will gain the confidence that what you are
learning puts you in a position to successfully compete against any
opponent.
