Tom Flynn was appointed as the new Pioneer head baseball coach on May 24, 2010. Flynn became the Pioneers tenth head baseball coach in programs 63 seasons on Palatine Hill. Flynn came to the Pioneers after serving as the head baseball coach at Wabash College in Indiana for six seasons (2001-2006).
While at Wabash, Flynn compiled 101 victories while coaching the Little Giants, ranking him second in career wins for a Wabash baseball coach. Flynn won his final game at Mud Hollow Field in dramatic fashion by defeating Denison University 5-4 in the bottom of the 7th inning on April 23rd, 2006. During his six seasons with the Little Giants, Flynn compiled a 101-132 (.433) record.
Flynn became the first full-time head baseball coach in Wabash history and quickly expanded the programs recruiting pool. He took the Indiana based program from all in-state players, to over 50% of the roster being comprised of out-of-state players in 2005. After two seasons at the helm, Flynn led Wabash to the third best record in school history after posting a 10-6 conference record.
During his time at Wabash, Flynn worked closely with the admissions office, earning a spot as a featured speaker in several "Wabash on the Road" programs and in Wabash's Campaign for Leadership video. Flynn also hosted the Wabash College Baseball Camp for youth players during the summer from 2000-2006.
Prior to joining Wabash, Flynn coached three seasons (1998-2000) at The University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn. When Flynn took over the program in the summer of 1997 he inherited a team with the worst record in the country in Division III baseball. Flynn brought an aggressive recruiting strategy to the program and quickly changed the atmosphere and expectations within the program, just missing the conference tournament his final season as coach.
As a player, Flynn was a three-year starter for nationally ranked College of Wooster, where he won three North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championships. Flynn played a key role in helping the Scots to the 1989 College World Series. In 1989, Flynn set the school record for most stolen bases in a season with 25. He is a three-time All-NCAC team selection (1989-1991), while being selected to the All-Mideast Region team in 1989 and 1991. Flynn made the NCAC All-Tournament team in 1991 and the NCAA Mideast Regional All-Tournament Team the same year.
Flynn also has a strong background in strength and conditioning, working as a fitness specialist for two years at the Saint Mary's Center for Health and Fitness in Reno, Nevada. During his time there Flynn worked with individuals of all fitness levels, including those with special needs.
Flynn graduated from The College of Wooster with a Bachelor of Arts in English, before receiving his masters in Education with an emphasis in Exercise Science from Furman University. He is the proud father to his daughter Kyra.
