Football Falls 36-6 at Pomona

The Pioneers fell 36-6 to the Pomona Sagehens in Claremont, Calif. Saturday afternoon. Andrew Foote had two field goals for the Pioneers.
After trailing 7-0 in the first quarter, the Pioneers answered on their next possession with a 12-play 48-yards drive to set up a 30-yard field goal by Andrew Foote (sophomore, Denver, Colo.). On Pomona's next possesion, DB Joe Morris (freshman, Mission Viejo, Calif.) intercepted a Sagehen pass, running it back 47 yards to the Pomona 23-yard line. Foote kicked his second field goal of the day, a 28-yarder, to make it a one point differential, 7-6 heading into the second quarter.
What began as a promising start ended up being the last of the Pioneer scoring with Pomona scoring 20 points in the second quarter to take a 27-6 lead into the half. They closed out the game with a 36-6 final score, including scoring two points on a safety.
Joevonte Mayes (freshman, Portland, Ore) had another 100+ yard performance, logging 147 all-purpose yards with 45 yards rushing, 74 yards receiving, and 28 yards of kick returns. Ryan Kostecka (freshman, Napa, Calif.) had 69 yards receiving with five catches. Kevin Takeno (junior, Midvale, Utah) had 11 tackles (six solo, five assisted). The Pioneer defense had seven tackles-for-a-loss on the day.
