PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark football team looks for its 20 new players to make an immediate impact for the 2013 season as the Pioneers return to the gridiron on Sept. 7 for their season opener.
The Pioneers graduate 13 players from last years team, which finished the season 4-5 overall and 1-5 in Northwest Conference play. Among the losses for the Pioneers are All-NWC Second-Team honorees Raul Milan, John Berokoff, and Logan Kotzian. Senior Keith Welch will return as the Pioneers starting quarterback after earning NWC Honorable Mention last season. On the defensive side of the ball, junior NWC Honorable Mention recipient Andrew Traver will anchor a young Pioneer squad.
The incoming recruits give the Pioneers more size and speed as they look to compete in a tough Northwest Conference. On the offensive side of the ball, the Pioneers have brought in several offensive lineman to help protect the quarterback and create room for the running game. Several speedy running backs will help the Pioneers maintain a strong ground game. The Pios will also have several new receivers to find down field as the Pioneers add four multi-dimensional players.
Defesnively the Pioneers have brought in several strong and physical linebackers and defensive backs.
