Football Opens Northwest Conference Play with 60-30 Win Over Puget Sound

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark football team put on a show at Homecoming with a 60-30 win over Puget Sound in both teams Northwest Conference opener. 

The Pioneers pick up their first win of the season, improving to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Loggers fall to 1-2 on the season and 0-1 in the NWC. 

Lewis & Clark was led by four rushing touchdowns from senior quarterback Keith Welch, who also threw for another four. Welch rushed for 165 yards on 17 carries, while finishing 26 of 38 passing for 352 yards. Andrew Frisina was one of Welch's favorite target, catching six passes for 98 yards, while Curtis Shirey caught five passes for 96 yards for three touchdowns. 

Defensively, Andrew Traver and Stein Retzlaff each ended the game with 14 tackles, while Retzlaff earned two tackles for a loss.

Kupono Park led Puget Sound in rushing with 47 yards on 16 carries. Brandon Foley ended the day 24 for 41 passing with three interceptions. 

The Pioneers return to the field on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. at Pacific Lutheran.
