FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Lewis & Clark football players Stein Retzlaff and Keith Welch earned Northwest Conference Football Player of the Week honors as announced by the league office on Monday after helping guide the Pioneers to their first win of the 2013 season.
Retzlaff earns his first ever Northwest Conference Defensive Football Player of the Week honor after helping the Pioneer defense hold off Puget Sound in the teams first win of the season. The sophomore ended the game with two tackles for loss and an interception to go with his 14 tackles.
Welch is no stranger to the NWC Offensive Player of the Week list but earns his first honor of the 2013 season after leading the Pio offense in their 60-30 route of UPS. Welch threw for 352 yards and four touchdowns, while rushing for 165 yards and scoring four touchdowns. Welch ended the day with 517 total yards and eight total touchdowns in the Pioneer victory. Welch ended the game just one rushing touchdown shy of tying his own school record. However, with his overall performance the senior quarterback once again wrote himself into the record books, setting a new L&C career record in total offense.
