Daniel Sloan Sixth at Willamette Invite
The Pioneer men's golf team finished ninth, edging out the George Fox Bruins in Monday's Willamette Invitational at Creekside Golf Course (results). Daniel Sloan had the sixth lowest individual score.
In the 36-hole tournament, the Pioneers shot a 372 on the first 18 holes, trailing the Bruins by six strokes. In the second round, however, the Pioneers dropped 12 strokes to post a 360, enough to erase the deficit and beat the Bruins by six strokes, 732 (Pioneers) to 738 (George Fox).
Daniel Sloan (junior, Tulsa, Okla.) dropped five strokes in the second round, shooting an 81 over the first 18 and then a 76. His final 137 ranked him in a tie for sixth place in the tournament. The difference for the Pioneers was the scoring of their #4 golfer. Stephen Rogitz (junior, San Diego, Calif.) dropped 11 strokes for a second-round score of 98 to help the Pioneers pass the Bruins.
The men will be back in action on March 29th, playing in the Pacific Invitational at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks, Ore.
The women played in a two day tournament at the OGA Golf Course in Woodburn, but failed to post a team score. Diana Freeburg shot a 128-118 and Kelsey Kraus posted a 105-109.
