Golfers Third at L&C Five Way
The Pioneer men's golf team took advantage of their home-course advantage, finishing third at the Lewis & Clark Five Way held at the Oregon Golf Club Monday (complete results). Daniel Sloan had his best finish of the season, placing sixth among the individuals.
The Linfield men's golf team earned their third-straight team victory, shooting a 302. Pacific followed with a 339. The Pioneer men, playing on their home course, had their best team finish of the season, finishing third with a 351. Willamette followed in fourth with a 357. George Fox placed fifth with a 383.
The Linfield men dominated the individual finishes, with the Wildcat's Tyler Nelson and Andrew Fitch earning co-medalist honors with each shooting a 74. Linfield's Kyle Henderson was third with a 76. Linfield's Jeff Nigro and Pacific's Taryn Braseth tied for fourth with a 78. Lewis & Clark's Daniel Sloan (junior, Tulsa, Okla.) shot an 82 to finish sixth.
The Pioneers had three players with sub-90 rounds. In addition to Sloan, Ryan Cosgrove (senior, La Canada, Calif.) shot an 88 and Scott Hymen (senior, Evanston, Ill.) overcame an ailing wrist to post an 89. Nick Peach (senior, Bellingham, Wash.) was the fourth scoring Pioneer with a 92.
