Men's Basketball Downs Westminster 72-54

The Pioneers closed out the Grand Canyon Tournament with a 72-54 (box score) victory over Westminster Saturday night in Phoenix. The Pioneers outscored the opponent 44-26 in the second half. Tyson Papenfuss led the team with 17 points. Josh Kollasch had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

After falling behind 13-0 in the first six minutes of the game, the Pioneers went on a 15-2 run, tying the game 15-15 with four minutes remaining in the half on a three-pointer by Mark Robinowitz (senior, Portland, Ore.). Another three-pointer at the buzzer by Robinowitz kept the score knotted, this time at 28-28, going into the break. The Pioneers outscored Westminster 20-7 in the first six minutes of the second half to take a 48-35 lead and control of the game. They finished with a 72-54 victory.

Tyson Papenfuss (junior, Clackamas, Ore.) finished the game with 17 points and seven rebounds. Josh Kollasch (sophomore, Tucson, Ariz.) posted his first double-double as a Pioneer with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Kollasch was 5-10 shooting, including hitting three of seven three-point attempts. Kollasch also had two blocks, three assists, and no turnovers in 27 minutes of play.

The Pioneers close out the non-Conference portion of their season with a 6-2 record, ranked #19 in the latest d3hoops national poll. They jump into Northwest Conference play on Wednesday, January 3, when they head to Forrest Grove to take on the Pacific Boxers. Tip off is at 8pm.
