Pioneers win in their second home game by one point

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers earn their first win of the season by one point with scores of 70-69. The Pioneers were able to overcome a 13-point deficit in the second half to get their first win. 

In the first half Lewis & Clark and the Rutgers were neck-and-neck. Both teams were going point for point up until the very end of the first half when the Rutgers made an 11-point run to put them up, 25-33.

The Rutgers were able to hold their lead in the second half up until the 11th minute when the Pioneers started their comeback. With the Pios down 13 points, Zeke Crawford made a three-point shot to make the score 50-60. Nico Bricker and Andrew Vickers then both followed up with scores of their own to close the gap even further. With under 20 seconds left in the game, Vickers went to the free-throw line and made all of his shots putting the Pios at 68-69. After a time out by Lewis & Clark, the Pios came out in press defense. Mak Hutson was able to get a steal with a recovery by Daelon Floyd who then got fouled while shooting in the paint. Freshman Floyd then made both free-throws putting the Pios up 70-69 and then winning the ball game.  

Bricker was the leading scorer for the Pioneers with 16 points and five rebounds while Vickers dropped 15 points with nine rebounds and two steals.

The Pioneers finished with a 35.7% three-point shooting going 10-28 and capitalized with 23 points off of 20 turnovers by the Rutgers. 

The Pioneers will be travelling to Honolulu, Hawaii to play in the 2017 Hoops in Hawaii Thanksgiving Classic against Arcadia. The game will start at 10 p.m.
