About the Tournament: The Northwest Conference
Fall Classic is one of three tournaments used to determine the NWC
Conference Champion as well as the NCAA Automatic Qualifier. Teams
competing in the Fall and Spring Classic earn one point for each
team they finish ahead of while they earn two points at the Spring
Championship.
The Linfield Wildcats shot a 596 to finish with a three-stroke
margin over second-place Pacific. Puget Sound ended up third at 618
while fourth-place Whitworth shot a team score of 631. Willamette
was two strokes back in fifth at 633. Pacific Lutheran was sixth at
645 with Whitman close behind at 646. George Fox came in eighth
with a final score of 652. George Fox served as host at Canyon
Lakes Golf Course.
Heron Lakes Golf Club
The men will be playing from the blue tees of the Great Blue
course at Heron Lakes Golf Club (Par 72, 6,491 yards). Heron Lakes
Golf Club is conveniently located less than 10 miles north of
downtown Portland, between the Willamette River and the Columbia
Slough. Designed by renowned golf course architects Robert Trent
Jones, Sr. and his son Robert Trent Jones II, Heron Lakes Golf Club
offers two distinct championship 18-hole golf courses catering to
multiple skill levels.
The more challenging Great Blue Course, which debuted in 1992,
better suits the skilled golfer and is a favorite challenge for
those with a low handicap. The course has fairways that ramble
between Scottish-style mounds and pose a collection of excellent
risk/reward riddles for all four sets of tees.
Both courses at Heron Lakes are carefully maintained and have the
reputation of being in the best condition of any public golf course
in the area.
