PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark men's and women's golf teams have added nine players for the 2013-14 season. The women's team features six incoming athletes, while the men's team games three more athletes.
"The 2012-2013 season was one of growth and progress for Lewis & Clark Golf," said head coach Dave Andrews. "Many great things have happened which will surely lead to the continued rise of Pioneer golf. Perhaps the most beneficial addition occurred in September when construction was completed on the indoor Golf Practice Room located inside Pamplin Sports Center. Mid May saw the completion of the Pioneer Golf Green, an 1800 square foot synthetic putting and chipping green located next to the Tennis Dome. Lastly, we will be installing a TruGolf simulator in the indoor Golf Practice Room in late June."
Last season the Pioneer men put together their best team score in recent history at the Northwest Conference Championship Tournament, finishing with a 307 for a two day total of 629. The overall score was also the Pioneers best tournament score in years. The team is set to return four of its five golfers from last season, with senior Jack Mathews being the only graduating players. The three new recruits will join an already young team, giving the Pios a squad of four sophomores and three freshmen.
On the women's side, the five new players will give the Pioneers their first team score since the 2009 season. The incoming athletes will immediately make an impact within the NWC for the Pioneers.
"With a strong recruiting class coming in, added to the 4 returning players, the future looks bright for the Men's Golf Program. This year's recruiting class for the women was exceptional, with 6 high school senior girls choosing to play their college golf as Pioneers. I'm excited to welcome them all to campus and watch their success on and off the course."
