The #3 seeded Pioneers fell 6-3 (results) to the #6 Pacific Lutheran Lutes in the first round of the NWC Championship Tennis Tournament Friday morning in Yakima.
Lisa Harunaga (sophomore, Kailua, Hawaii) had victories at #2 doubles and singles for two of the Pioneer points, partnering with Maggie Peach (sophomore, Bellingham, Wash.) for the doubles victory. Amalia Nilsson (freshman, Stockholm, Sweden) earned her 17th victory of the season at #1 doubles for the third Pioneer point.
In the fifth-place game, the Pioneers defeated the Willamette Bearcats 5-3 (results) with one match left uncompleted after the Pioneers wrapped up the victory. Lisa Harunaga and Maggie Peach won together at #2 singles. They each also had victories at singles, with Lisa winning at #2 and Maggie at #5. Amalia Nilsson kept her perfect singles record in tact, winning at #1. She also had a victory at #1 doubles with partner Whitney DeBree (freshman, Ketchum, Idaho).
