Pioneer women's tennis player Amalia Nilsson (freshman, Stockholm, Sweden) was chosen as an alternate for the 2008 NCAA III Women's Tennis Singles National Championship, ranking her as one of the top-35 players in all of Division III tennis.
The NCAA III Tennis Championships, held this year May 13-18th in Saint Peter, Minnesota, consist of a team competition, with Linfield earning the Northwest Conference's spot in the tournament. After the conclusion of the Team Championship, a 32-player Individual Championship is played, May 16-18.
Nilsson just missed making it into the field of 32. She was named third-alternate, meaning if three players dropped out of the tournament, she would be inserted into the field. Her inclusion as the third-alternate ranks her 35th among all Division III singles players. Nilsson was named the Northwest Conference Player of the Year and went undefeated in the NWC this season. The Northwest Conference does not have a player in the Individual Championships other than Nilsson earning alternate status.
