2008 Wilson ITA Small College Northwest Regional
Members of the Pioneer women's tennis team will be in Salem this weekend competing at the Wilson/ITA Small College Northwest Regional. In Day one action, Whitney Debree won two matches to stay in the Championship bracket.
Whitney Debree defeated Willamette's Fabi Dieguez 6-3, 6-0 in her opening round. She defeated Whitman's Charlotte Scott 6-3, 7-5 later to advance to the quarterfinals. Debree was the only Pioneer to win a match in the opening round to stay in the championship bracket. Paige Earhart fell 6-2, 6-2 in her opener. Clio Beatty bowed 6-0, 6-0. Jill Coleman fell 7-6 (7-4), 6-1. Taylor LeMoreaux fell 6-1, 6-1. Caitlyn Homer fell 6-2, 6-0.
Earheart, Beatty, Coleman, LeMoreaux, and Homer all fell into the consolation tournament. Clio Beatty won her consolation match 8-3, advancing to play teammate Jill Coleman (who won her match 8-4) Sunday afternoon. Taylor Moreaux also advances in the cosolation breacket with a 8-5 victory. Caitlyn Homer will also play again on Sunday after her 8-5 consolation victory. Paige Earhart was the only Pioneer eliminated with a 8-3 loss.
The Pioneers three doubles teams were eliminated with losses Saturday morning and move into Sunday's consolation doubles.
In the Championship bracket, Whitney DeBree was eliminated in her first match of the day, falling 6-2, 6-1 to a Whitman player.
In the consolation singles bracket, Jill Coleman won the battle with teammate Clio Beatty to advance after a 8-5 victory. She then fell 8-3 to a George Fox player to be eliminated. Caitlyn Homer and Taylor LeMoreaux each won their first matches to set up a second-round showdown between the two with LeMoreaux advancing after an 8-4 victory. LeMoreaux, the only Pioneer singles player still active, will take on Whitworth's Stephanie Reardon at 8:30 am in the semi-finals. If she wins, she will advance to the consolation finals, also to be played Monday at Willamette.
In consolation doubles, Whitney DeBree and Jill Coleman advances to the second round after their first round opponent retired due to injury. They won their second match 8-4 over a duo from Whitworth and will play in the semi-finals Monday morning against a team from Linfield. The other two Pioneer doubles teams dropped their first round consolation doubles matches.
In consolation bracket action, Taylor LeMoreaux fell in her first match Monday morning in the quarterfinals, 7-5, 6-4. In doubles action, Whitney Debree and Jill Coleman fell in the semi-finals 8-3 to a team from Linfield.
