Pioneers Slip To Linfield 7-2
McMINNVILLE, Ore., - The Lewis & Clark
women’s tennis team fell to Northwest Conference foe Linfield
on Friday afternoon by the final score of 7-2. The Pioneers fall to
0-3 on the season, with all three coming at the hands of NWC
opponents.
The Pioneers lone singles point came from Jill Coleman in the No. 5
spot. Coleman knocked off Sarah Click after a grueling battle that
saw the duo go into a super tie-breaker. Click took set one 1-6,
while Coleman clawed her way to a 7-6 (1) victory in the second
set. In the super tie-breaker, Coleman won the advantage taking the
set 10-4.
Amalia Nilsson came close to picking up another singles point for
the Pioneers, battling through three sets, but was unable to defeat
Sallie Katter. Katter defeated Nilsson in the super tie-breaker
10-7. Nilsson bounced back in doubles play, earning the other
Pioneer point along with teammate Whitney DeBree. The pair won an
8-5 decision from the No. 1 doubles spot, taking down Katter and
Sophie Larson.
The Pioneers return to the courts on Saturday, Feb. 21 against
Pacific Lutheran for their first home match of the 2009 season.
Linfield beat Lewis and Clark 7-2.
