Pioneers Open Home Play With First Win of the Season

PORTLAND, Ore., - It was a great home opener for
the Lewis & Clark women’s tennis team who picked up their
first win of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Northwest
Conference member Pacific Lutheran 8-1 at the Tennis Dome. The
Pioneers picked up all three double points, while earning five of
the six points.
Amalia
Nilsson continued her winning ways, earning her third singles
victory of the season putting her 3-1 on the year individually.
Against Pacific Lutheran Nilsson defeated Ashley Brooks in straight
sets, 6-0, 6-2. The Pioneers also earned a singles point from Whitney
DeBree in the No. 2 spot, with DeBree taking out Ashley Coats
in consecutive sets (6-1, 6-2). Both Nilsson and DeBree teamed up
to face Brook and Coats in doubles, defeating the PLU tag team 8-6.
The doubles win puts Nilsson and DeBree at 4-0 on the season from
the No. 1 doubles spot.

Beatty defeated Mary Stang in the tie-breaker, after the duo
battled through two sets (5-7, 6-0) before Beatty took the match
6-2. Jill
Coleman battled Jessica Wilson to a 6-1, 6-3 win, while
teammate Mika
Yokoyama took out Caitlyn Hoerr 6-4, 7-5.

Homer earned a doubles point for the Pioneers from the No. 2
spot, taking down Ali Burnside and Bruner 8-5. The Pioneers final
point came from Paige
Earhart and Coleman who knocked off Hoerr and Stag 8-3.
The Pioneers return to the courts on Saturday, Feb. 28 t 11 a.m.,
taking on George Fox in the Tennis Dome.
