HILLSBORO, Ore. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers swept the most recent Northwest Conference Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week awards as senior Kacey Incerpi and sophomore Jackson Powell were selected, the conference office announced on Monday.
Incerpi is in the middle of an eight-match singles winning streak after a three-set win against Austin's Diana Carvajalino and a pair of 6-0 sets against George Fox's Jillian Studer last weekend. She has now won 10 singles matches in three consecutive seasons dating back to the Pioneers' NWC championship season in 2016. Playing as the team's primary No. 2 singles entry this year, Incerpi is 8-0 and 4-0 in matches against NWC opponents. Lewis & Clark is tied with Whitman for second place in the conference standings.
Powell's award is his second of the season after receiving the choice on Feb. 19. Over the weekend, Powell beat Kenneth Hardy of Austin, 6-2, 6-2, before winning at George Fox against 16th-ranked Spencer Watanabe by the same score. Both of the wins were Powell's first as the team's No. 1 singles competitor and improved his overall singles record to 9-2 this season. He's won three in a row. Lewis & Clark has won eight of its last nine duals and sits alone in second place behind Whitman.
In doubles, Incerpi paired with Christine Eliazo as the team's No. 1 pair. The duo won both of their matches and bumped up to 8-1 in doubles matches this season. Incerpi is 11-2 overall. Powell competed with Pim Trouerbach at No. 2 doubles for a pair of wins to improve to 7-0 this season. Overall, Powell is 9-3 in doubles this year.
The Pioneers have claimed five NWC Student-Athlete of the Week selections for tennis this spring, the most by any Lewis & Clark team.
Lewis & Clark's women's team competes in southern California against Redlands and Wellesley over spring break. The men will be there as well for matches with Gustavus Adolphus and Pomona-Pitzer.
