WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers opened the 2018-19 season with the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northwest Regional Championships last weekend.
Raed Attia and Ramez Attia advanced to the quarterfinals of the main doubles bracket after two wins over Puget Sound's Riley Inn and Pulido, 8-5, and Nishaant Limaye and Matthew Biggi of Whitman, 9-8. The Pios pair dropped out after an 8-4 defeat to George Fox's Thierry Van Os and Payton Namba in the quarters.
"While we didn't get the results, I thought we played much better than last weekend," said head coach Jimmy Chau. "Our focus this year will be on development, and to that end, we made some good strides in just a week's time."
Riley Vickers notched his first fall ITA victory with a 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 win over Aaron Schechter of Willamette. Brendan Adams defeated Eric Rutherford of Linfield, 6-2, 6-2, before nearly upsetting the No. 10 seed Andreas Mueller-Immergluck of Whitman in the second round. Adams lost 7-5, 7-5.
"We're a small squad this year, but I think this tight knit group has the heart and determination to make this a year where we make some huge strides," said Chau.
