A recap from Head Coach Sam Taylor:

On the men's side, we came away with a huge win in the men's varsity eight. They had a very tough week of practice and still managed to win a hard-fought race with the Oregon State freshman eight; they were also a couple lengths up on the Humboldt eight which got us last weekend. Our novice men's 8 was 4th in the same race, not too far back and showing some great improvement before conference.

The men's varsity four also finished 2nd, this time losing out to a very strong OSU frosh boat but having a very solid piece. The Women's side was led by our JV4 with an excellent win in their event; they were strongly challenged by a Humboldt crew, remained tough, and pulled away for a six second win. The varsity four was strong as well, racing even with Humboldt's top four throughout the event but were unable to respond to the final push at the finish line and came in 2nd.

Our novice women's 8, racing in the JV8 event, had an absolutely tremendous race and finished 2nd behind only Evergreen state. Most notably they beat crews from Seattle Pacific and Humboldt who we'll see again next weekend and looked great doing it. The varsity 8 finished 3rd behind SPU and Humboldt; we doubled all but one of the crew out of the fours and they had less then an hour on shore-- they were very tired at that point and weren't quite able to get on terms. The execution was good and we'll look to see the speed next weekend.

The Men's pair, Novice men's four, and novice women's fours race were all victim to strong winds in the morning that meant racing was suspended for several hours; once the wind died down the course was fantastic. Our team acquitted themselves brilliantly and we're right on track for the conference championships.
