About Pioneer Rowing

Mission Statement

Lewis & Clark Crew is a fully supported varsity program for Men and Women. We believe in the continued development of a stable, high-quality team while ensuring the academic success of our student-athletes. We seek to excel in the student-athlete experience, the quality of our rowing and training, the character of our program, and the racing results the program achieves.

Our goal is to graduate four-year rowers who have learned their best life lessons on our team while achieving academic success and competing at a national level.

About Lewis & Clark Crew

Our team is a DIII varsity program. We are fully funded by the athletic department and there is no cost to the student-athletes to participate in the program. We are aligned with the NCAA Division III as wells as the Northwest Collegiate Rowing Conference (NCRC) and the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA). These two affiliations ensure excellent competition against like-minded institutions.

As a DIII program we cannot offer aid to admission or athletically based financial aid. We ARE very enthusiastic about speaking to prospective students with prior rowing experience that are interested in Lewis & Clark crew. We highly encourage you to contact the coaching staff at lccrew@lclark.edu to discuss your experience, your college goals, and how you might best fit with Lewis & Clark Crew.

Our team is a small college program. Our varsity men’s and women’s squads average 15-25 athletes each year. We have three coaches working with the varsity program and work to achieve excellent technique for all of our athletes. The small-college environment ensures that experienced athletes have an immediate impact on the program and that all athletes have racing opportunities through the season.

Our team is highly time-efficient. Lewis & Clark is a rigorous academic environment and the student-athletes’ time is valuable. We practice no more then six sessions a week, generally once per day, and utilize the most up-to-date training programs to achieve an excellent degree of racing speed within that framework. Our athletes are highly successful students and highly successful competitors and we believe the two to be complementary.

Our team is fantastically positioned. Our boathouse is a short 10-minute drive from the campus and our water is nearly limitless. We race primarily eights but also utilize our fours and pairs to do small-boat training and keep things interesting. We have an erg room on campus to facilitate independent winter training.

Our team rows seven weeks in the fall and twelve weeks in the spring. The rest of the time on campus is yours. Our student-athletes regularly use this time to train independently and achieve a high degree of personal fitness. They also use this time to focus on their studies and other interests. Lewis & Clark College offers a tremendous variety of opportunities to all students and winter is a great time to take advantage of those.

Our team is passionate, engaged, and ambitious. DIII athletes compete because they love the sport and love the team; Pioneer Crew is no different. If you have a passion for rowing, for competition, and for teamwork we want to talk to you.
