Softball Drops Two in Bay Area

The Pioneer softball team lost the first two games on the Bay Area road trip, falling 4-3 (box score) and 3-0 (box score) to the Menlo Oaks Saturday afternoon in Atherton.
In game one, the Pioneers took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. After Jessica Mullins (junior, Randle, Wash.) drew a two-out walk, Michaela Satter (freshman, McKinleyville, Calif.) singled to left center to move Mullins to second. Sheree Miura (junior, Waipahu, Hawaii) drew a walk to load the bases. Jamie Moon (sophomore, Baker City, Ore.) hit a ball that was bobbled. Heads-up base running by the Pioneers scored two runs on the miscue.
The Oaks tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a two-run home run. They took a 4-2 lead in the third on two hits, a walk, and an error.
The Pioneers scored again in the fourth. Mullins lead off the inning by hitting a ball to left field that was dropped by the left fielder, reaching second on the miscue. After advancing to third on a groundout, Mullins scored on a single to shallow right by Miura, making it a 4-3 game.
The Pioneers had a scoring opportunity in the after Karyne Sander (senior, Grants Pass, Ore.) singled through the gap at short, but the Pioneers failed to score a run, falling 4-3 to the Oaks.
In the second game, the Pioneers loaded the bases in the second inning after Karyne Sander drew a leadoff walk. Kelly Vega (sophomore, Beaverton, Ore.) hit a one out single. Michaela Satter drew a two-out walk to load the bases, but a fly to right field ended the Pioneer threat. In the fifth, the Pioneers had runners at the corners after singles by Miura and Paige McFeeley (freshman, Boise, Idaho), but could not plate a run.
They fell 3-0 in the game.
Sheree Miura had two hits and a run driven in. Michaela Satter had a hit in each game.
The Pioneers take Easter Sunday off and then play again on Monday when they take on Bethany in a noon doubleheader.
