Pioneer Softball Outhits Northwest Christian But Falls 4-2

BOX
SCORE
EUGENE, Ore., - It didn’t take long for the
Lewis & Clark softball team to get to work against Northwest
Christian on Thursday, March 19 at James Park, with the Pioneers
collecting two first inning runs. Despite the early run support the
Beacons bounced back to come from behind to grab a 4-2 win.
The Pioneers immediately got their bats going with a Jamie Moon
single to left field. Jessica Mullins followed suit with a single
to left. Things would only get better for the Pioneers, who
received help from the Beacon pitching staff, beginning with a
passed ball that allowed both Moon and Mullins to advance a base.
Laura Parker sent Moon home moments later with a single of her own,
before an error by the second baseman allowed Mullins to cross home
plate.
Northwest Christian struggled at the plate, with Paige McFeeley
holding the Beacons hitless through the first four innings. The
Beacons did however manage their own unearned run in the second
inning on a pair of walks and an error.
The Pioneers led the game 2-1 going into the bottom of the fifth
inning before the Beacons captured a solo homerun, tying the game.
Northwest Christian took control of the game in the bottom of the
sixth inning, scoring two runs on two hits.
The runs would be enough to seal a 4-2 win for the Beacons.
Lewis & Clark returns to the diamond on Saturday, March 21 for
two games at George Fox. The first game is set to begin at 12 p.m.
