CALDWELL, Idaho -- Jenai Rojo hit a home run in the sixth inning on her way to three RBI, and Kady Bruce threw six innings, as the Lewis & Clark Pioneers beat College of Idaho 6-5 at Symms Field on Tuesday afternoon.
The one-run victory followed a loss by the same margin, 2-1, in the first game of the doubleheader.
Following her sacrifice bunt in the first inning that scored Lindsay Yearman, Rojo hit a solo homer to left center field in the top of the sixth to extend the Pios' lead to 4-2 over the Coyotes. She later walked in the seventh inning to bring in another run, the second walked-in run of the inning, to extend the edge to four runs.
Bruce, who had allowed six hits and two runs entering the final inning, allowed a walk, a single and a three-run home run to Hailey Chambers before Kalin Rooney entered the game and registered the final three outs. Bruce finished with the win and Rooney earned the save.
Cortni Pena pitched six innings in the loss for College of Idaho.
Rojo finished 1 for 1 with three RBI, two walks and two runs scored. Hannah Dal Pra added a two-run home run, her first of the season, in the fourth inning. Paige Salavea hit 2 for 4 in the game, while Emily Drevdahl and Ashley Bolick also added hits.
In the first game, Lewis & Clark scored a run in the top of the sixth inning when Drevdahl hit her second home run of the season. The leftfield homer brought the Pios within one after falling behind 2-0 on RBI singles from Destiny Turner.
