Pios lose second game lead, drop doubleheader at Linfield

Game 2 - Linfield 4, Lewis & Clark 2

McMINNVILLE, Ore. -- Hannah Dal Pra's RBI double gave the Lewis & Clark Pioneers a two-run lead over Linfield on Friday afternoon at Del Smith Stadium, but the Pios weren't able to hold on, allowing four runs over the next three innings in a 4-2 loss to the Wildcats.

Dal Pra's fourth-inning double followed Paige Salavea's RBI single in the third that scored Stephanie Garcia, who opened the Pios' hitting with a two-out single off starter Shelby Saylors.

The run support backed a great start in the circle for Lewis & Clark by pitcher Jill Pinder. The senior threw 3 1/3 innings and allowed two hits and one run, which was unearned, while striking out two and walking one. Pinder left after facing 14 batters, and Kalin Rooney (2-2) finished the final 2 2/3 innings. She gave up four hits, three runs, while striking out four of the 14 batters she faced.

Lewis & Clark (8-15; 2-9 Northwest Conference) threatened to score even more in the fourth inning, stranding two baserunners after Ateshia Norton followed Dal Pra's double with a single, but pinch runner Sarah Reyes was thrown out at home. Tiana Rosario hit a two-out single to move Norton to third before Lindsay Yearman flied out to end the inning.

The Wildcats evened the game with one run in the bottom of the fourth on a strikeout of Paige Smotherman, who reached on a passed ball, allowing Darian Stedman to score. The following inning, Linfield scored another run, helped in part becuase of a wild pitch and one of the Pios' three errors. RBI singles by Jen Hiatt and Alissa Buss in the sixth inning gave Linfield the lead.

The Pioneers went down in order in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

Game 1 - Linfield 8, Lewis & Clark 0 (5 innings)

Linfield scored three runs in both the first and second innings, including a home run by Danielle Duman, and Lewis & Clark couldn't answer with runs of its own in an 8-0 loss at Del Smith Stadium on Friday afternoon.

The Pios matched the home team Wildcats (15-8; 7-5 NWC) with seven hits, but stranded seven baserunners including three in the top of the fifth inning. Holly Hale (pictured right) pinch hit for Ashley Bolick and hit a leadoff single to center field. After Zoe Juarez popped out to shortstop, Paige Salavea moved Hale to second on a single to left. With two outs, Emily Drevdahl hit an infield single to load the bases before Jenai Rojo grounded out to end the inning.

Freshman Kady Bruce (2-3) was Lewis & Clark's starting pitcher, leaving after one inning and seven batters. She gave up two hits, three runs and two walks. Kalin Rooney pitched an inning in relief, allowing nearly the same stat line except for one less walk. Kaili-Ann Akimseu finished the game, throwing two innings, allowing three hits, one earned run with two walks and two strikeouts. She faced a game-high 12 batters.

Hannah Dal Pra had the Pios' only extra base hit, a double in the fourth. She was the only baserunner in the inning. Drevdahl went 2 for 3 for the game, while Tiana Rosario and Juarez added hits to go with those by Hale and Salavea.

Lewis & Clark closes out the series with Linfield starting at 12 p.m. on Saturday before returning home for two make-up games with Puget Sound on Mar. 31.
