PORTLAND, Ore. -- Nearly three weeks after the games were originally supposed to be played, the Lewis & Clark Pioneers made it worth the wait. The Pios got walk-off plays from Paige Salavea and Ateisha Norton to sweep Thursday's doubleheader with Puget Sound.
In the opening game, Lewis & Clark won 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Salavea scored on a wild pitch by Erica Gott during Emily Drevdahl's at-bat. The score capped off a 3 for 4 performance by Salavea, including a single to get on base in the game-winning inning. Tiana Rosario hit a two-run single in the bottom of the fourth to give the Pios a 2-0 lead before Puget Sound tied on Amber Popovich's home run in the fifth.
After crawling back from a four-run deficit following Jaci Young's second-inning grand slam, Lewis & Clark forced extra innings and won when Norton hit a two-run, ninth-inning homer over the right field fence. The home run is Norton's third this season and rounded out a 3 for 5 hitting performance with two runs scored. Hannah Dal Pra, who got the first hit of the ninth inning and was replaced by pinch runner Zoe Juarez, finished with a pair of hits, as did Drevdahl and Salavea.
The Pios (11-16; 5-10 Northwest Conference) play again on Saturday and Sunday at Willamette.
