2006-07 Pioneer Swimming Season Recap

It was another great season for the Pioneer women's swim team with the men's team also having some strong swims and great performances in the 2006-07 season.

The season started for the Pioneers with the NWC Sprint and Relay meets. The Sprint Pentathlon has every swimmer in the Northwest Conference swimming sprint heats of each of the strokes, the IM, and a free. Their times in these five races is added up to determine the meet champion. The Pioneers' Lindsay Nixon (sophomre, Chino Hills, Calif.) finished second among all NWC female swimmers. The Pioneer women, as a team, finished second. The team also had a victory in the second-half of the season-opening events, the Relay meet, with the ladies winning the 300 Medley.

The Pioneer closed out the first half of the season with the women defending their title at the Northwest Invitational. Lindsay Nixon and Koy Collier (sophomore, Wailuku, Hawaii) shared Swimmer of the Meet honors at this major swimming event.

The highlight of the season for the men's team was a 91-85 victory in a dual meet against the Willamette Bearcats. It had been many, many years since the men's team defeated the Bearcats.

The Pioneers had another strong showing at the Northwest Conference Championships held in early February in Tacoma. Lindsay Nixon defended her 400 IM title. Nixon won the event for the second time in her career, this time posting a 4:43.79. Nixon also finished second in the 200 IM. Koy Collier dominated the free swims, finishing third in the 50 free and 100 free and second in the 200 free. Pat Murray (sophomore, Jamestown, R.I.) had the best finish among the individual men, placing third in the 200 breast. Justin Lawton (junior, Tokyo, Japan) finished just one place shy in the 100 free, finishing fourth. The Pioneer women's free relays had a great meet, with the 200 free, 400 free, and 800 free relay teams all finishing in the top-three.

The Pioneer women's team finished fourth in the team rankings, just seven points behind the Whitman Missionaries. The Pioneer men's team finished seventh. The women had a 5-2 Conference record this season, third best among the eight schools sponsoring swimming. The men posted a 2-5 mark, finishing sixth in the regular season.
