Lindsay Nixon selected as the NWC Nominee for the 2009 NCAA Woman of the Year Award

NCAA Woman of the Year

Northwest Conference Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - Recent graduate Lindsay Nixon has been selected as the Northwest Conference nominee for the 2009 NCAA Woman of the Year award as voted upon by Northwest Conference Senior Women Administrators. The NCAA Woman of the Year Award honors senior student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership.

Lindsay’s resume is nothing short of impressive. As a four year letter-winner on the Women’s Swim Team she made a name for herself as both a fierce competitor in the pool and as an outstanding member of the Lewis & Clark Community. In the pool Lindsay holds three individual school records (200IM, 400IM, 100m Butterfly) and is also a member of four school record holding relay teams. She is a seven time all conference performer (must have finished in the top three in a conference championship event for this honor) achieving conference championships in both the 200IM and the 400IM in 2007 and the 200IM in 2009. In her senior campaign she posted two NCAA provisional qualifying times in the 200IM and the 400IM.

Out of the pool Lindsay continued to lead at a campus, conference and national level. A four year member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) she served as Co-Chair during her senior year as well as Vice President of the Northwest Conference SAAC. Prior to her senior year she was selected to attend the NCAA National Student-Athlete Development Conference. Lindsay also worked for the Office of Admissions for four years serving as a tour guide, visit host and as an ambassador for the entire campus community.

Lindsay was selected as the 2009 Pioneer Athletics Club Outstanding Senior Career Award winner, an award that is presented to a senior student-athlete for exceptional contributions in each year in the areas of athletics, scholarship and service and leadership to the Athletics Department and the Campus Community.

Each NCAA Conference Office submits their nominee to the national office. All conference nominees will be forwarded to the Woman of the Year selection committee. The selection committee will choose the top 10 honorees in each division. From among those 30 candidates, the selection committee will determine the top three in each division. Finally, the members of the CWA will vote from among the top nine finalists to determine the 2009 NCAA Woman of the Year. The top nine finalists and winner will be honored October 18, 2009 in Indianapolis.
