Swimming Finishes Session One of NWC Championships

RESULTS

FEDERAL WAY, Wash., - The Northwest Conference Swimming Championships are underway with session one already completed. The Lewis & Clark College men’s and women’s teams ended the first round with several members qualifying for the next round of competition.

The top performance of the day belonged to Lindsay Nixon who set a new school record in the 200-yard IM, finishing the race before all her competitors. Her touch in 2:10.81, downing the old mark of 2:11.92 by just over a second. The finish qualifies Nixon for the next round of action. Koy Collier finished the 200-yard IM in ninth place (2:16.29) which sends her through to the next round, while Susie Trexler (2:19.84 – 14th), Cat Menkel-Lawrence (2:20.55 – 15th) and Mandy Hamilton (2:20.80 – 16th) finished back-to-back-to-back to all move onto the next stage. Collier's swim moves her into 5th all-time for the 200 IM.

Claire Jordan had a great day for the Pioneers, finishing the 500-yard freestyle in fifth place with a qualifying time of 5:13.79. With this swim, she moved into 7th all-time for the Pios in that race.The Pioneers also had a swimmer qualify for the next round of the 50-yard freestyle with Annie Hay finishing her race in eighth place with a total time of 25.49. With this swim, she moved into 7th all-time for the Pios in that race.

The Pioneer men had a good day at the NWC Championship with Zac Hixson qualifying in the 200-yard IM, finishing in 11th place with a time of 2:08.86. Senior Sammy Palmer is moving onto the next round of the 50-yard freestyle after finishing with a qualifying time of 22.13 which put him in 10th place overall. Palmer, one of the teams co-captains, moved into 5th place in Pioneer Swimming history for the 50 Freestyle.

Both the men’s and women’s teams return to the pool later in the day for the next round of NWC action.
