Pioneer Swim Teams Split in Home Opener
The Pioneer swim teams split in their first dual meet this morning against the Yotes of the College of Idaho. The women captured a win with a score of 161-42, while the men suffered a loss, with a score of 109-68. (Results)
The LC women held control over the Yotes the entire meet, posting top times in all eleven events. Lindsay Nixon, Koy Collier, Annie Hay and Claire Jordan each won two events, helping their team to capture the win. In an extremely close 200 freestyle relay, the Pioneer women pulled out a win by one hundreth of a second with a time of 1:57.26 over the Yote's time of 1:57.27.
The LC men, although falling to the Yotes, were able to hold first place finishes in three events. Steven Carreno posted two of the wins in the 200 freesyle and the 100 backstroke, while Taylor Lee added a win in the 100 breaststroke.
Head Coach Chris Fantz was very encouraged by several strong
swims. Steven Carreno, a freshman, took first place in 200
Freestyle and 100 Backstroke in his first collegiate meet.
Sophomore Lee Tayloe took first place in 100 Breaststroke.
On the women's side, senior Koy Collier took first place with
season bests in 100 and 200 Freestyle. Fellow senior Lindsay Nixon
took first place with season bests in 200IM and 100 Breast.
Sarit Gluz won the 100 fly. Annie Hay, had first place
finishes and season bests in 50 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke.
Claire Jordan swept the distance races, winning the 1000 and
500 Freestyle.
"Our meet went GREAT," said Head Coach Chris Fantz when refelcting on the Pioneers' home opener. "We had some spectacular swims for any time in the season, so I'm especially happy they are showing up now."
The Pioneers will participate in the NWC Sprints and Relays next weekend, taking on all of their fellow Conference swimmer. The sprints will take place at Pacific on Friday night and the Relays will take place at L&C at the Zehntbauer Swim Pacilion Saturday, Nov. 1, at 1pm.
