Pioneer Women Finish in Third at Northwest Invitational Swim Meet

The Pioneer women finished in third place at the Northwest Invitational in Tacoma, Washington on Friday and Saturday, November 21-22. The meet featured nine teams on both the men's and women's side, with 36 total events. Half of the events were raced on Friday, while the other half were raced on Saturday. Preliminary races were held in the morning on both days in order to determine heats.
The teams featured at the meet were Whitworth, Puget Sound,
Whitman, Pacific, Linfield, Cal State East Bay, Pacific Lutheran,
College of Idaho, and Lewis & Clark.
The Pioneer women had a strong weekend, placing third with 675 points. L&C received a second place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay (Lindsey Nixon, Annie Hay, Koy Collier, Susie Trexler), with a time of 3:46.62,bringing in 44 points for the Pioneers. Also adding points for the Pioneers was swimmer Lindsey Nixon, who placed first in the 400 yard IM with a time of 4:44.69. Nixon's final race time was 4.72 seconds better than her preliminary time of 4:49.41, which was still one+ second better than all of her competitors in the event. Nixon earned 75 points at the Invitational, the third highest scorer for the women.
Friday, November 21:
After the first day of competition in the Northwest Invitational on Friday at the Whitworth Aquatic Center, the Pioneer women sit in third place with 356 points, while the men are in eighth place.
The women's team scores are: Whitworth 490, Puget Sound 384, Lewis & Clark 356, Whitman 219, Linfield 153, Pacific Lutheran 148, Pacific (Ore.) 133, Cal St. East Bay 122, College of Idaho 59.
Leading the Pioneer women was Lindsey Nixon, who found a win in
the 200-yard individual medley with a winning time of 2:15.45.
The men's team scores at the meet's halfway point are: Whitworth
463, Puget Sound 391, Whitman 342, Pacific Lutheran 322, Linfield
201, College of Idaho 158, Pacific (Ore.) 149, Lewis & Clark

The meet will conclude with 18 more events (nine each for the men and women) on Saturday, November 22. Preliminaries will start at 9:30 am and finals will begin at 5:30 pm.
The meet is not a conference meet, but will be counted towards the Pioneers' overall record. L&C men are currently 0-3 overall and the women are 2-0.
