Los Angeles, Cali--- Pioneer Swimming opened the spring portion of their 12-13 campaign while on their winter training trip to California, racing a dual meet against Occidential in the Tigers' home pool.  Occidential took both sides of the meet, with the Pioneer women scoring 94 to Occidential's 168, and the mens scoring 92 to 170.

The Pioneers had several standout individual performances on the Monday, despite being in the middle of a hard winter training block.  Trevor Schapiro took three races and a solid 2nd, winning the 1000 Freestyle, 100 Butterfly, and 50 Butterfly before taking 2nd in the 500 Freestyle to finish a marathon day of racing.  Rachael Cazden also took three races, winning the 50 Backstroke, 50 Freestyle, and 100 Backstroke.  Additional Pioneer wins were chalked up thanks to River Poze in the 100 Backstroke and Gail Wilcoxen in the 50 Butterfly.

The Pioneers are on the road back to campus Tuesday, and are back in action Friday, January 18th with a home meet against Linfield.  Racing will be in Zhentbauer pool starting at 6 PM.
