Portland, ORE-- Pioneer Swimming hosted Whitman College at Zhentbauer Swim Pavilion Friday evening, with Whitman taking both the Men's and Women's side of the meet. The Pioneers successfully pulled down three individual race wins, a relay win, and a school record on the night.
The race wins were all on the women's side, with the 200 Medley Relay team of Rachael Cazden, Alli Rotunno, Gail Wilcoxen, and Hannah Frank taking the first race of the night. Cazden and Frank backed that race up with a 1-2 finish in the 50 Freestyle, and Cazden made her night three-for-three with a win in the 100 Freesytle as well. Monica Castro took the final victory for the Pioneers with a win in the 500 Freestyle.
For the Pioneer men's team, the highlight was Freshman Tyler Moody taking down the school record in the 100 Breaststroke, clocking a 1:00.58 and finishing 2nd in that event.
Head Coach Chris Fantz summed it up; "We had a lot of strong swims tonight. To end the last individual event with Tyler's school record was a huge lift for everyone. We were already feeling a lot of excitement after a number of excellent races. On the women's side, we've had a strong and competitive rivalry with Whitman for years. This showed through in some extremely tight races."
The Pioners are back in action Saturday as they host Whitworth College at Zhentbauer, with the meet scheduled to start at 1:00 PM.
