Portland, ORE-- Facing perennial Northwest Conference power Whitworth at home in Zhentbauer pool Saturday, the Pioneers knew they would have a challenging meet on their hands. Whitworth did claim victory in both the men's and women's side of the meet. The Pioneers had several bright spots, however, and continue to work on building towards the end of the season.
There were three race wins for the Pioneers on the day, with the distance duo of Lesley Pfeiffer and Taylor Coiner going 1-2 in the 1000 Freestyle to start the individual events. The other two wins were due to the skills of Rachael Cazden, who took another win in the 50 Freestyle with teammate Hannah Frank in 3rd place. Cazden sat out her usual 50-100 double to try her hand at a new event, taking her second with in the 200 Backstroke, nearly three seconds ahead of her nearest competitor.
Facing the defending NWC Champions, the Pioneer men had a challenging meet but did pull down a strong 2nd in the 200 Butterfly thanks to Trevor Schapiro.
The Pioneer swimming has two off weekends, and then returns to action at the Husky Invitational November 30th-December 2nd.
