Michael Miller is in his fifth season as an assistant coach with the Pioneers.  Workouts often find him bringing his vast training background to the middle distance and distance swimmers.  Michael assists with recruiting duties, as well. 

Before joining the Pioneers, Michael was the head coach of Glacier Swim Club in Juneau, Alaska. During his tenure, GSC grew from 62 to 150 swimmers ranging from novice to national level swimmers.  Over fifty of his swimmers have gone on to compete in college at the NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA levels.  Michael was also honored by USA Swimming as a Lifetime Member. 

During his swimming career, Michael was a multiple NAIA All-American and school record holder in the middle distance/distance freestyles while at Central Washington University. He earned a B.A. in Education/Physical Education with a minor in Psychology from 1971- 75.

In addition to assisting the women’s and men’s swimming programs, Michael teaches aquatics classes in the Physical Education Department at the College.  In 2011, Michael earned Honorable Mention Assistant-Coach-of-the-Year honors for the NCAA

He lives in Portland with his wife Judy, has three adult children (Michael Todd, Chris, Jena), one daughter-in-law Sandra (married to Michael Todd), and one grandchild (Isaac Michael).
