Women's Basketball Falls in OT at Buzzer

The Pioneer women's basketball team fell in overtime, 67-65 (box score), to Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves Saturday afternoon in Tacoma on a three-pointer by the opposition with one second remaining in the first overtime. Crystal Castle had a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Allison Farr scored 15 in the loss.
After trailing 13-8 six-and-a-half minutes into the game, the Pioneers went on a 13-0 run, with Crystal Castle (senior, Rocklin, Calif.) providing seven of those point, to take a 21-13 lead. The Pioneers pushed their lead out to nine, 25-16, on another jumper by Crystal Castle. The Prairie Wolves closed the gap to three, 25-22, with 3:35 left in the first half, but the Pioneers managed to go into the break leading by five, 30-25. In the second half, the Pioneers extended their lead to 13, 46-33, on an and-one by Allison Farr (senior, Rocklin, Calif.). The Prarie Wolves mounted an 11-3 run to put pressure on the Pioneer lead. The Prairie Wolves tied the game, 55-55, with 29 seconds remaining in the game. Neither team got off another shot, sending the game to overtime.
The Pioneers struck first in OT, with KimKittell (sophomore, Tillamook, Ore.) hitting a three pointer to give the Pioneers a 58-55 lead. After trading baskets and freethrows, the Pioneers lead by one, 65-64 with 1:12 remaining in the OT. A three-pointer with :01 left in the game gave Nebraska Wesleyan their first lead of the game since the first half, earning them the 67-65 victory.
Crystal Castle had the 12th double-double of her career, and her
third of the season, with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Allison Farr
scored 15 points with four rebounds and five steals.
Due to some travel conflicts, the women's team has reversed the order of their opponents, playing Nebraska Wesleyan on Friday at 4pm, then close out the tournament on Saturday at 5pm against the Cal State East Bay Pioneers.
