Pioneer Women Put Away CSU East Bay 82-73

The Pioneer women’s basketball team defeated the Cal State
East Bay Pioneers on Saturday night, December 6, 82-73 (boxscore) in the final
game of the Pioneer Classic in Hayward, California. The victory
continued the Pioneers on their four-game winning streak, now 4-3
overall, breaking the 500 mark for the first time this season.
After coming off of a close win the night previous, the Pioneers
were fueled by a confidence that has been surfacing in the past
four games. Shooting 49.3% from the floor and 35.7% from
three-point range, the Pioneers were able to control the outcome of
their 40-minute reign.
With every player entering the game, the Pioneers received
valuable performances in a wide variety of players. Christina
Herring (So., San Dimas, Calif.) led the Pioneer attack with 18
points. Also in double-digits, Kelly Vega (Jr., Beaverton, Ore.)
added 15 points and Neva Hauser (Fr., Palo Alto, Calif.) chipped in
14 points. Not far behind, Kim Kittell (Jr., Tillamook, Ore.) spent
her fourth consecutive game in double digit scoring with 11 points
and nine rebounds. Margaret Dowling (Fr., Burlingame, Calif.)
controlled the boards, leading the Pioneers in rebounding, yet
again, with 10.
The Pioneers will not return to play until December 20, when they
travel to California once more to take on Cal Lutheran and La
Sierra College. Both games will be played in the afternoon, with
Saturday's game beginning at 4:00 pm and Sunday's game at 2:00
pm.
