Women's Basketball Set To Head North To Canada

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Lewis & Clark
women’s basketball team is set to begin their 2009-10
campaign by seeing all that Canada has to offer. The Pioneers will
play four games in British Columbia, Canada, facing four very
different schools who will all present a different challenge to the
young squad.
The trip opens with a match-up with the University of British
Columbia on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 4:30 p.m. Last season the
Thunderbirds put together a strong season, capping off league play
on a 10-2 run and advanced to the Pacific Division finals, where
they played two tough games against Simon Fraser to finish the
season.
The Pioneers will then travel to Simon Fraser to take on the Clan
on Friday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. The Clan finished last season with a
28-3 overall record, which included four wins over the University
of British Columbia.
Vancouver Island is the next stop on the Pioneers tour, with the
two teams going head-to-head on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 6 p.m. The
Mariners finished last season with a 17-9 overall record, while
being nationally ranked as high as #13 at one point during the
2008-09 season.
The University of Victoria is the last stop on the schedule before
the Pioneers return to the States to take on the University of
Oregon. The two sides will square off at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11.
The Vikes finished with a 17-6 regular season record, before moving
into post-season play where the University of British Columbia
knocked them out of the Pacific Tournament. Last season was the
team’s most successful conference campaign since capturing
their last CIS title in 2003. The Vikes are set to return all their
players this season.
