D3hoops.com - After a trip to the NCAA Division III National Tournament last season, the Lewis & Clark women's basketball team has been recognized as a national caliber team with a spot on the D3hoops.com Preseason Top-25 Poll. The Pioneers were picked 25th.
The Pios are set to return 14 players from last year's squad with Northwest Conference Player of the Year Kristina Williams returning to the line-up. Williams led the Pioneers in scoring last season with 16.2 points per game, while shooting .860 from the free-throw line en route to both conference and national honors.
Lewis & Clark is also set to return a strong senior trio, starting with NWC Second-Team honoree Megan Spence. A post player, Spence averaged 12.4 points a game, while pulling down 6.8 rebounds a game. Margaret Dowling and Neva Hauser will also return to the starting line-up with Dowling leading the team in rebounds last season with 7.4 per game.
Christina Herring is the Pioneers only starter not returning to the team after graduating from Lewis & Clark in May with a degree in communications.
The Pioneers begin the 2011-12 season on Tuesday, Nov. 15 with a home contest against Evergreen State at 6 p.m.
