FOREST GROVE, Ore. - The #9 Lewis & Clark women's basketball team earned a 64-43 win against the Pacific Boxers in the Northwest Conference regular season finale. The Pioneers, who enter the NWC Tournament as the No. 2 seed, will host Whitman on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m.
The Pioneers finish the regular season with a 23-2 overall record and 14-2 conference standing. The Boxers finish 13-11 overall and 6-10 in the NWC.
Erica Shultz finished the game with 15 points for the Boxers, while Paige Jensen scored seven. Both Shultz and Jensen led the Boxers in rebounds with Shultz grabbing six and Jensen five.
Junior Kristina Williams scored the games first basket with a three pointer at the 16:48 mark. Once Williams hit her three, the Pioneer offense hit their stride, quickly running up a 17-3 lead with 9:52 until halftime.
Williams hit a jumper with a little over a minute left to give the Pioneers their largest lead, 29-12, of the half. Olivia Cook cut the Pio advantage to 15 points with 36 seconds remaining. With one second left until halftime, the Boxers fouled Kathlene Howe, sending the sophomore to the free throw line to earn the Pioneers a 30-14 halftime lead.
A Villanueva jumper with 19:25 remaining in the second half put the Pioneers ahead by 20 points for the first time in the contest. The California native then put Lewis & Clark on top 52-27 with back-to-back free throws.
The Boxers picked up a few points down the stretch, but would never pull closer than 21 points.
