NEWBERG, Ore. - The #7 Lewis & Clark women's basketball team fell to Northwest Conference rival George Fox 85-69 Saturday night in the Northwest Conference Tournament Championship. The victory gave the Bruins the conferences NCAA automatic qualifier.
Senior Megan Spence led the Pioneers with a double-double, scoring 13 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Junior Kristina Williams knocked down 12 points for the Pios, while sophomore Tayler Wang finished the night with 11.
Keisha Gordan led the Bruins with a game-high 21 points and nine rebounds.
George Fox ran out to a quick 9-0 lead to start the game and never looked back. The Pioneers would never be able to find a way to get themselves back into the contest, trailing the whole way.
Spence put the Pioneers on the board with a pair of free-throws with 16:37 on the clock. The closest the Pioneers would find themselves to the Bruins would be with a little over six minutes to play after a Spence three pointer cut the Bruin lead to 11-5 with 15:44 to go.
Down 50-29 coming out of halftime, the Pioneers would swap scores with the Bruins throughout most of the second half, which never allowed them to inch muich closer.
The Pioneers now await the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, Feb. 27 at 11:00 a.m. to find out if they have been selected for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
