SALEM, Ore. - The #9 Lewis & Clark women's basketball team earned its 13th win of the season on Friday night, taking the road to defeat the Willamette Bearcats. The Pioneers earned a dominant 77-43 win on the road at the Cone Field House in Northwest Conference action.
The Pioneers improve to 13-1 on the season and 4-1 in NWC play. The Bearcats are still in search of their first win, falling to 0-13 overall and 0-4 in league play.
Senior Kristina Williams ended the night in double figures, finishing with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Tayler Wang led the team with 17 points, while Sara Villanueva ended the evening with 13 points. Katie Anderson also concluded the game in double figures, scoring 10 points in the Pio victory.
Mackenzie Lamson led the Bearcats with 17 points, while Sophie Wilson added nine points for Willamette.
The Pioneers captured an early 6-0 lead and never looked back. Willamette did its best to stay within striking distance in the first half, but would never be able to capture the lead. Lewis & Clark scored eight straight points to take a nine point lead with 13:09 on the clock.
Villanueva increased the Pios lead after hitting a layup while being fouled for an untraditional three-point play. Sophomore Casey Zinn followed suit, hitting a jumper and drawling a foul for a three point play of her own to give the Pios a 39-22 halftime advantage.
Lewis & Clark opened the second half with a strong 11-4 run for a 24 point lead. The Pioneers continued to dominate throughout the half, taking a 77-40 lead courtesy of a Reese DeHart free-throw with 1:30 to go.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 6 p.m. as they host Puget Sound.
