George Fox Wins NWC Fall Classic
PORTLAND, Ore. – Four top-five
performances propelled the George Fox Bruins to the 2009 Northwest
Conference Women’s Golf Fall Classic title on Sunday at Heron
Lakes Golf Club in Portland, Ore. Emily Guthrie of Whitworth took
medalist honors after finishing with a score of 157 (80+77).
The Bruins, who trailed by eight strokes following Saturday, used a
309 in round two of the classic to pick up the win with a team
score of 651. Jill Westendorf shot an even par on the second day to
finish second, while teammates Sarah Askin and Brianna Nap both
earned 83’s to tie for third in the standings. Whitworth, who
led after the first round, took second with a two-day total of 663
led by Guthrie.
Linfield was third with a score of 681, led by a 166 from Brittany
Johnston, who tied for fifth. Puget Sound and Whitman took fourth,
both posting team scores of 708, followed by Pacific (741), Pacific
Lutheran (772), Willamette (818), and Lewis & Clark (855).
The teams now gear up for the 2010 NWC Spring Classic, which will
be hosted by Whitworth and Whitman.
